Every single card on ProCardVault is inspected by hand before it is listed. Condition is judged on the front and back of the card, looking at the edges, corners, surface, and centering. Here is what each grade means, so you know exactly what you are buying.
Near Mint (NM)
The card looks like it was just pulled from a pack. You may notice a tiny white speck on an edge or a very faint surface mark under close inspection, but nothing that stands out at arm's length. Near Mint is the right choice for binders, display, and most collectors. Note that Near Mint is a raw-card condition, not a guarantee of a particular grade if you send the card to a grading company.
Lightly Played (LP)
Minor wear that you can see on a closer look: small edge whitening, a slightly soft corner, or light surface scratches. No creases, bends, or major scuffs. Lightly Played cards look great in a sleeve and are a smart way to save on playable cards.
Moderately Played (MP)
Wear that is clearly visible: noticeable edge and corner whitening, scratches across the surface, or a minor crease that does not break the card's surface. The card is still fully intact and playable in sleeves.
Heavily Played (HP)
Significant wear, such as heavy whitening, multiple creases, surface scuffing, or minor water marks. The card is still recognizable and playable in an opaque sleeve. Good for budget decks and filling a set.
Damaged (DMG)
The card has major problems: tears, large creases or bends, ink or writing, heavy water damage, or peeling. We describe any damaged card in its listing, so there are no surprises.
Printing variations
- Holofoil: the artwork itself has a holographic finish.
- Reverse Holofoil: the card frame and background shine while the artwork stays flat.
- Normal: a standard non-foil printing.
- 1st Edition / Unlimited: used for vintage sets, where the 1st Edition stamp affects value.
Graded cards
Graded slabs are listed with the grading company, the grade, and the certification number, and show photos of the actual slab you will receive. You can verify any certification number on the grading company's website.
